The Adult Recreational Choir Society of Calgary (ARC) was founded by Brian Bowman in 2002 with a vision of providing creative and challenging opportunities for adults to enrich their lives through musical expression and public performance. All programs are non-auditioned and feature eclectic and diverse repertoire in a community recreational setting. A highly diverse membership reflects an intergenerational mix of individuals with varied backgrounds. The diversity reflected in the ARC community creates a stimulating, supportive community environment for all. ARC is distinct from other community choirs with a strong and committed membership who not only enjoy singing together, but who form strong personal connections. As Founder and Artistic Director, Brian grew ARC to include three choirs over two decades. ARC became known for regularly performing two mainstage productions each year at Christmas and springtime which are characterized by professional staging, colourful costumes and choreography. Audience support has grown to more than 2,500 people annually. In addition, the choirs perform numerous free community shows, have participated in local festivals, and hosts a highly popular Talent Show each winter. Brian retired as Artistic Director in 2022 reflecting 20 years of dedication, vision along with significant impact and input into the Arts Community in Calgary. Torrance Airhart started in 2022 to further develop and grow Brian’s original vision and legacy of “Awakening, Nurturing and Sharing the Voices of Music in Harmony.”
